Sheriff Jones is the son of the late Ruby Caffy Jones and the late Truman L. Jones, Sr., and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lee Jones and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hall Caffy of Readyville.
He is married to the former Jackie Smith, and they are proud parents of two sons: Jason and Barry. Jason has two sons, Tyler and Landon, and a daughter, Abby. Barry is married to Kim Malone Jones, and they have a son, Tru.
Sheriff Jones is a graduate of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy in Donelson and has maintained his certification by the state’s Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission throughout his career by receiving over 1400 hours of specialized law enforcement training from courses that included the following: Criminal Investigations, Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, Sexual Abuse Investigations, Highway Safety Programs, Cults & Sects, Grant Review for Law Enforcement and Detention, Homeland Security Terrorist Education Training and Domestic Preparedness.
Truman’s 38 years of service at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office began in May 1972 as a patrol deputy. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1974 and became Chief Deputy in 1976.
He was appointed Sheriff in 1983 following the untimely death of Sheriff Craig Snell. The following year Truman was elected Sheriff and was handily re-elected for six more terms, making Sheriff Jones the highest ranking law enforcement official in this county for 27 years.
