Barely 20 people showed up today for an anti-government protest organized by Rutherford County Republicans. The protest took place on a short stretch of sidewalk in Murfreesboro, TN.
Michael Patrick Leahy, a prominent Williamson County Republican and national tea party organizer, was scheduled to speak at the protest but was a no show just as we predicted he would be.
Leahy was recently exposed by a blogger for having over $100,000 in unpaid tax liens and civil judgments against him over the past 16 years. Leahy has virtually disappeared since our reporting. Leahy is now suing the blogger.
Today’s “instant tea party” was held barely weeks after hundreds of Rutherford County Republicans stood on the square protesting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The federal stimulus funds they protested enhanced health benefits our hereos deserve, invested $13.9 million in our county schools, extended unemployment benefits for our county’s growing unemployed as well as $30 million to retrain dislocated and low-income workers.

What? There weren’t thousands upon thousands? who knew?
See what happens when corporations and big DC think tanks aren’t funding their “grassroots” movement?
I bet a lot of Republicans didn’t know this was going on. Some people need to see it on Fox News or hear Rush Limbaugh talk about it before they think it’s even real.
Channel 5 did a report on these protests and never said how many people showed up. They also repeated what these people said they were protesting and never gave the opposite side of the story. This is the first report I’ve seen to lay out exactly what these people are protesting. Way more people gathered to protest the war and Channel 5 was no where to be found. Now these people protest money spent on veterans, schools and roads and they give them 2 whole minutes to whine on the TV. Thanks Channel 5!
[...] “Murfreesboro’s Tea Party Movement Fizzles” (Rutherford Co. Democratic Party) [...]
I was looking for information regarding the June 10 Tea Party and found this about the April 15th party.
I guess nobody from the Rutherford County Democratic Party actually attended if they reported only 20 people showed up. I was there for most of it, and I would say around 200 people attended.
Great reporting there, guys. It’s like you work for the mainstream media, including FOX. You don’t even know what’s going on in your own county.
Here are at least three undisputed truths. If you dispute any of these things, you’re just kidding yourself.
-Government does absolutely nothing efficiently.
-Government gives nothing away. It only buys. What does it buy? Freedom, choice. So we give our government our money so they can eventually make our choices for us.
-Government never accurately estimates the cost of a social program, and it never overestimates the cost. So the idea that any politicians, republican or democrat, can budget for something they have no idea will cost is laughable.
Dave, this post is about the May 21st event, not the April 15 event. Other media outlets reported maybe 50, but no one ever reported 200 people.
200 at the April 15 tea party? LMAO try 800 I was there. Lame as liars.
